32+ Zeitgebers (Biological Cues) And How To Enhance Your Circadian Rhythm

Right now as I write this, I am watching the morning sun, sitting on a bench in Dolores Park with my shirt off an laptop out - in 50ºF weather!

Last night I had no sleep as I just traveled from FL to CA and helping my brother pack until 4am… and I woke up around 5am (8am my normal time… thanks jetlag).

That’s why I believe today’s topic of discussion should be circadian rhythm cues, also called Zeitgebers.

Zeitgebers (the German word for “time givers”) are signals that help synchronize the body's circadian clock with the environment.

In this post, we will discuss the most common zeitgebers, how they affect our circadian rhythm, and how we can use them to enhance our sleep, stress, weight, social life, and more.

Why NRF2 Activation Can Make You More Sick

Recent cancer research has helped us understand how the body detoxes.

By studying upregulated genes in tumorous cells, we were able to find the Nuclear Erythroid 2–Related Factor 2 (NRF2) pathway.

NRF2 is a major transcription factor in detoxing the body and keeping it healthy.

In this post, we will discuss the benefits/downsides of NRF2 activation, as well as why NRF2 may be hurting you more than helping you (and what you can do about it).

Blue Light's Unique Effects On Our Health

In 1958, researchers looked at how each unique color affected organisms.

They found out that blue light could change the circadian rhythm of algae, and this was later found out to be true with humans as well.

Our understanding about blue light has increased and I have summarized what the literature shows to date.

Blue light is quite powerful and has the power to reset/disrupt our circadian rhythms, but if used and timed properly it may mitigate diseases like diabetes, obesity, depression, anxiety, bulimia, schizophrenia, dementia, and Parkinson's Disease.

Some of the reasons (more explained below) is because blue light influences hormone secretion, heart rate, alertness, sleep, body temperature, and gene expression.
